Getting Started

Your best bet for playing Zone 66 is to use DOSBox emulator software.
Even though I have never tried it, it works with all 3 leading operating systems.
And besides, the chances of you having a computer running MSDOS are probably
pretty slim, unless you saved your first computer.
So, my advice is to get the software, and use it to play the game on your PC.
Okay, let's imagine that you DO have a computer already running DOS.
Zone 66 will not run in standard DOS mode. You have to tweak the files so
that it will run in dos.
Making a boot disk.
TO CREATE THE BOOT DISK
=======================
A. Put a blank disk in your A: drive.
B. From the DOS prompt, type the following command:
FORMAT A: /S
C. Press ENTER.
D. Wait while your computer formats the disk and turns it into a boot disk.
E. Label the disk "Zone 66 Boot Disk" and keep it handy. You'll need this
disk whenever you want to start ZONE 66.
F. You need to 'edit' the config.sys and the autoexec.bat files on the floppy.
G. In dos, at the command prompt, type 'edit' and hit 'enter' key.
H. Open the config.sys file on the A: drive.Leave the C: drive file alone..
I. Remove the line that says: DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS .
J. Hold down the alt key, and press F key. The File menu opens.
K. Then, let go of alt and press S key to 'save'.
This will save the changes to the file on the floppy.
L. Next, open the autoexec.bat and repeat the process, if necessary.
M. Alt/F and then X will close the Qbasic text editor.
If your system BIOS is set to floppy as first boot device, you are all set.
However, if it is set to Hard disk ( C: ) then you need to set the boot order
to floppy drive ( A: ) first, and C: second.
There is an alternate way , which involves giving your MSDOS system a dual boot
option , by using the menu command.
If you have dos, you have a manual, and it is in there .
It's easy, and I use it .
